Fresh sentences are not ready
Fresh AI sentences and custom topics require an Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhone, iOS 26 or later, Apple Intelligence enabled, and its on-device model downloaded. Keep the iPhone connected to Wi-Fi and power during initial setup, then reopen SpeakSignal.
If English sentence tools are still preparing, allow the system download to finish. You can use the included practice library across seven topics while waiting. If a generated sentence is unclear, choose New sentence or return to the library.
Make the listening voice more natural
Tap Listen before you record. SpeakSignal selects an installed American English system voice. Ava (Premium), when available, or another Premium voice can sound more natural.
To add one, open iPhone Settings → Accessibility → Read & Speak → Voices → English. On older iOS versions, this section may be called Spoken Content. Download the Premium voice, wait for it to finish, then return to SpeakSignal. You can continue practicing with the current voice.
If you hear no example, turn up the media volume and check whether audio is playing through connected headphones or a Bluetooth speaker.
Microphone or recording trouble
In iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone, allow SpeakSignal. Record in a quiet space at a comfortable distance from the phone. Check that a case, hand, or connected audio device is not covering or changing the microphone.
If a call or another audio session interrupts the take, return to SpeakSignal and record again. If a normal-volume recording is reported as too quiet, retry once and contact us if it repeats; this message can also reflect an audio-capture problem.
Understanding the feedback
Automatic corrections cover the two TH sounds and American R. Other sounds can be selected for practice without automatic correction.
The IPA display is the recognizer’s estimate of what it heard. Red or underlined differences are suggestions to review, not proof of a mistake. Recognition can miss a deliberately changed sound or flag a correct one. Listen to the example, try again, and look for a repeatable pattern rather than treating one result as a score.
If feedback seems wrong, tell us the displayed sentence, the selected sounds, what you intentionally changed (if anything), and the feedback shown. A screenshot is useful; no audio recording is needed.
Delete practice information
Open SpeakSignal Settings → Delete practice history. This removes saved takes, preferences, and recent sentence keys from the app. The included library remains available. You can also revoke microphone permission in iPhone Settings.
See the iPhone privacy policy for details about local storage.
